Ian Parker
Master Class for Adelphi Pianists
Friday, September 11, 1:00–3:00 p.m., Concert Hall
Performance – September 12

A master class is a unique opportunity to observe the teacher-student relationship. Guest artist Ian Parker will coach three Adelphi students in well-known piano repertoire by Chopin and Liszt. The teacher, a virtuoso artist, will explore the technical and artistic challenges of a piece with the student:  commenting, offering interpretive suggestions, demonstrating and encouraging the student to raise the level of performance to new heights in only a short time period. Such classes are intensely focused and often provide the student with a new and valuable perspective on the piece and music in general.

Jupiter String Quartet (Artists in Residence)
Performance – October 2
  • Lecture-Demonstration on Concert Repertoire
    Friday, October 2, 10:00–11:00 a.m., Recital Hall

The members of the quartet are not only brilliant musicians….they are wonderful teachers as well. As a prelude to their concert performance that evening, they will offer a lecture-demonstration in which historical, musical and interpretive aspects of the repertoire are revealed. Their observations are supported by substantial excerpts from the works. Hearing and understanding the essential musical elements of a piece, and how the performers deal with them, adds immeasurably to the enjoyment of the actual concert. But the lecture stands on its own as an entertaining and enlightening experience.

  • Master Class for Adelphi String Players
Saturday, October 3, 10:00 a.m.–12 noon, Concert Hall

The members of the Jupiter String Quartet will work with Adelphi string players on solo repertoire, delving into the musical and technical challenges of each work.
